Visual Testing (VT)

Visual Testing (VT), or Visual Inspection, is one of the most traditional methods of inspection. The process involves a professional technician physically looking for visual evidence of flaws in pressure retaining or structural equipment such as piping, pressure vessels, storage tanks, weldments, and supports.

VT is a surface NDT method for performing code-compliant inspections and general assessments of assets in the new construction or fabrication process or during in-service maintenance activities. Regardless of any subsequent NDT methods employed, every inspection begins with a thorough visual examination.

VT, along with PT and MT, is one of the essential surface non-destructive testing methods. At SNS, visual inspections are carried out only by certified technicians who have been trained and qualified to the highest industry standards.
